According to reports, Neymar has informed Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) that he wishes to leave the club this summer.
The Brazilian moved to Paris in 2017 after PSG invoked the €222 million (£191 million) release clause in his Barcelona contract.
Neymar has won five league titles, three Coupe de France trophies, three French Super Cups, and two Coupe de la Ligue winners’ medals during his six-year tenure with the Parisians.
Neymar is under contract with PSG until 2025, with an option to extend for another year, but it appears like his time with the club is coming to an end.
According to L’Equipe, the 31-year-old has informed PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi of his wish to leave the club before the summer transfer window closes.
An incident in May, when enraged PSG fans gathered outside his home and yelled for him to leave the club, is thought to have impacted Neymar’s decision.
Neymar to leave PSG and join Barcelona again?
According to the source, Neymar wants to return to Barcelona, where he spent four successful years before joining PSG.
However, due to their persistent financial difficulties, the Catalan giants may find it tough to recruit the Brazil international.
Chelsea were connected with a deal for Neymar in January, and they are reportedly prepared to revive their interest in light of the latest events.
The French champs may now lose Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, and Neymar all in the same transfer window.
Messi joined Inter Miami earlier this summer after his PSG contract expired, while Mbappe is in a conflict with the club’s hierarchy after refusing to sign a new contract.
PSG are unlikely to obstruct Neymar’s move, having previously stated that they would be open to trade the Brazilian international as they shift away from their prior recruitment strategy of obtaining high-profile players.
They are concentrating on developing a younger group under newly recruited manager Luis Enrique, who is likely to add Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele and Benfica’s Goncalo Ramos to his roster.
PSG is presently concluding their preparations for the new season, which begins on Saturday at home against Lorient.
