Arsenal receives major boost in their pursuit of Lazio midfielder

According to reports, Arsenal‘s pursuit of Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has received a major boost.

For the past few years, the Serbian has frequently been connected with moves outside of Rome, but he has stuck at Lazio, where he has made a name for himself as a club legend.

Since joining Lazio in the summer of 2015, Milinkovic-Savic has gone on to make 328 appearances. Throughout his time at Stadio Olimpico, the midfielder has registered 64 goals and 59 assists.

After winning Two Italian Super Cups and a Coppa Italia trophy, Milinkovic-Savic is in the final 18 months of his current contract. Although Lazio is eager to reach a contract extension with one of their prized assets,

However, it doesn’t seem likely that Milinkovic-Savic will agree to a new one. In order to avoid losing Milinkovic-Savic on a free transfer in 2024, the Italian club may approve a sale during this summer.

The Lazio man is currently attracting interest from a number of European clubs, including Premier League leaders Arsenal. According to Gazzetta Della Sport, the Gunners have received a boost in their quest to sign the 28-year-old.

Arsenal to get a big discount on signing Sergej Milinkovic-Savic

Lazio’s initial asking price was reportedly €100 million (£88 million), but they plan to lower it now that his contract is coming to an end.  

According to the report, Maurizio Sarri’s team may decide to consider offers above €50 million (£44 million).

The player’s representation are urging Lazio to accept bids between €35m (£31m) and €40m (£35m), but they are lobbying for a lower asking price.

Juventus is reportedly one of Milinkovic-admirers, Savic’s thus Arsenal is likely to face competition for his services.

The Serbian international, who has seven goals in 39 appearances for his nation, is also drawing interest from Newcastle United and West Ham United.

This season, Milinkovic-Savic has played in 34 games across all competitions, scoring six goals and dishing out eight assists.

The midfielder is anticipated to play a part in Lazio’s effort to overcome a 2-1 deficit against AZ Alkmaar on Thursday in the European Conference League.
