Barcelona considering summer move for Man City midfielder

Rodri to Barcelona

According to reports, Barcelona are considering a summer deal for Rodri, the Manchester City midfielder. Sergio Busquets’ contract with the Catalan giants at Camp Nou is set to expire at the end of June.

Thus, the former Spain captain could leave on a free transfer this summer. However, Busquets has not yet made a decision regarding his future.

But it is thought that MLS and Saudi Arabian teams have made him a number of offers. Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, Pablo Torre, Gavi, and Franck Kessie are all options for Barcelona’s centre midfield. But the La Liga outfit still lacks a natural successor for their leader Busquets.

According to sources, The Catalan club is reportedly interested in Rodri. Thus, they willing to pay £80 million to acquire the 26-year-old during the upcoming transfer window.

Although the midfielder is content with his current circumstances at the Etihad Stadium, the report indicates that he would be open to talking about a move to Camp Nou.

Before joining Villarreal in 2013, Rodri spent time at Atletico Madrid during his youth career. He then advanced through the age groups before making his first-team debut in 2015.

The midfielder later played for Villarreal for 84 times before moving on to Atletico, where he shone during the 2018–19 season, recording 47 appearances across all competitions.

Rodri open to a move to Barcelona?

Rodri is now playing for Man City in his fourth season, and since joining the club, he has made 185 appearances, scored 15 goals, and provided 14 assists.

During his tenure at the Etihad Stadium, the Spaniard won two Premier League championships, two EFL Cups, the Community Shield, and finished runner-up in the 2020–21 Champions League.

Ilkay Gundogan’s contract at Man City is up at the end of June, and Barcelona has been linked with a bid for the seasoned midfielder.

While Bernardo Silva’s future is still up in the air, a recent rumour suggested that the midfield could see some changes during the summer transfer window.

Declan Rice, the captain of West Ham United, is reportedly back on Manchester City’s radar, and Jude Bellingham of Borussia Dortmund is also thought to be a target for the team.

After a 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest on Saturday, Man City will be looking to bounce back when they travel to RB Leipzig on Wednesday for the first leg of their last-16 Champions League matchup.
