Bayern Munich to compete with Premier League clubs for Ligue 1 forward

Jonathan David to Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich are interested in Lille forward Jonathan David, according to reports. The 23-year-old has had a storied career with the French club, first helping them win the Ligue 1 title in 2020-21.

While Lille have since regressed, David’s reputation has grown with his goal contributions figures. The Canada international has 54 goals and nine assists in 129 appearances across all competitions.

As many as 20 of those goals have come in France’s top flight this season, keeping David on the market for a move to a bigger team. Regardless of whether Lille can secure European football for next season, the swap seems expected to take place in the summer.

The French club Les Dogues will be aiming to earn the highest possible fee for their star forward. Arsenal, Manchester United, and RB Leipzig have all been connected with the versatile attacker.

Moreover, David has stated that he is open to a move to the Premier League or La Liga.

Bayern Munich joins the race for Jonathan David

According to Sky Sport Deutschland writer Florian Plettenberg, the latter of the aforementioned teams may not be the only German club pushing for a deal.

Bayern Munich are reportedly keeping an eye on the situation as they plan to enhance their forward ranks under Thomas Tuchel next season.

Despite Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting’s 17 goals in all competitions in 2022-23, Bayern Munich needs a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski.

According to the report, the Bundesliga leaders have scouted David on multiple occasions and have a high view of him.

Nonetheless, no real talks are thought to be taking place at this time, with discussions with Tuchel anticipated to take place in due course.

Bayern now has only six matches left this season after being eliminated from the Champions League by Manchester City on Wednesday night.

Tuchel’s team travels to former club Mainz 05 on Saturday, with a two-point lead over Borussia Dortmund at the top of the Bundesliga standings.
