Bruno Fernandes insists Man United captaincy will ‘not change him’

Bruno Fernandes to Manchester United

Bruno Fernandes stated that being chosen Manchester United captain was a “beautiful moment,” but that the “big responsibility” will not “change him.”

Last Thursday, the Portugal international was formally named Man United captain, succeeding Harry Maguire, who is no longer regarded as a regular starter for the team.

Due to Maguire’s troubles, Fernandes frequently wore the captain’s armband last season, but it has now been announced that he is the English team’s permanent captain.

On Friday, the midfielder stated that wearing the armband is “above his dream,” and that he is “proud” to be in the position.

Bruno Fernandes comments on the captaincy role provided by United

“Obviously, it’s such a beautiful moment for me and to share it with my family, too,”

Fernandes told MUTV.

“It’s not something that you dream about, because that’s above your dream. It’s something that makes you feel proud of everything that we’ve been doing.”

“It’s a big responsibility, but it’s already a big responsibility to be part of this club. So we know that, for me, it will be the same. I won’t change.”

“I will keep the same standards and just try to give my best as captain, as I was doing when I wasn’t.”

Fernandes said after the clash in New Jersey.

“It was a good game, I think everyone enjoyed it, It’s always tough to play against Arsenal, it’s a good game, a good fight.”

“We had a great spirit, won the game, that’s the most important. We are getting minutes in our legs to get in the best shape as possible for the beginning of the season.”

“It’s always great to score. It’s always important for your confidence. It’s the first game, I’m really happy. But obviously, the result was the best thing of today.”

“We know how the manager is, he takes care of all the details. It’s pretty tough to train with him, but this is the result.”

“We have to understand that it will be tough. It’s a pre-season, [there is] a lot of training, a lot of work to do. It’s our second season so we have to get it better and better.”

On Saturday evening, Fernandes scored in Manchester United’s third summer friendly.

The Red Devils registered a 2-0 triumph over Premier League rivals Arsenal, claiming their 3rd victory in a row. Before this, the 20-time English Champions defeated Lyon (1-0) and Leeds United (2-0).

On Tuesday evening, an academy squad will play Wrexham in San Diego. Meanwhile, the main team will return to action against Real Madrid on Wednesday night.
