Chelsea not interested in summer move for Harry Maguire

Harry Maguire Chelsea

Despite recent talk around the Manchester United center-back Harry Maguire making a possible move to Stamford Bridge, Chelsea are allegedly not interested in signing him.

This summer, the 30-year-old was stripped of his leadership at Old Trafford and is largely anticipated to depart the club before the end of the transfer season in pursuit of regular playing time.

West Ham United have been extensively connected with the defender, but the Hammers are only seeking for a loan deal at the moment.

According to a recent rumour, Chelsea were also interested in the former Sheffield United youth, with the Blues considering a bid during the summer transfer window.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side, though, are not actively exploring a deal for Maguire, xback, according to The Guardian.

Chelsea not willing to spend on Harry Maguire

According to the article, former Chelsea youth Marc Guehi, who currently plays for Crystal Palace, is on the London club’s radar.

Due to a major knee injury, Pochettino’s club will be without centre defender Wesley Fofana for a prolonged amount of time, while Kalidou Koulibaly has left to join Al-Hilal this summer.

Trevoh Chalobah is also being linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge, with Inter Milan reportedly keen in signing the defender before the transfer window closes.

Former Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has urged Maguire to quit Old Trafford this summer, alleging that head coach Erik ten Hag no longer supports the defender.

During the 2022-23 season, the centre-back only started eight Premier League games, with Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, and Victor Lindelof all ahead of him in the pecking order.

When Varane and Martinez were both injured, Luke Shaw was selected ahead of Maguire in the centre of the defensive.

Maguire received a wage increase in his Man United contract this summer, making it more difficult for the club to sell him permanently despite the interest.

The Englishman has joined the Red Devils on their pre-season tour of the United States, which kicks off on Saturday night against Arsenal.

Chelsea, meanwhile, began their preparations for the 2023-24 season on Wednesday with a 5-0 victory against League Two side Wrexham.
