Lionel Messi in talks to sign a new contract with PSG

According to reports, Lionel Messi is negotiating a new deal with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). After leaving Barcelona in 2021, Messi signed a two-year deal with PSG.

The current deal is due to expire at the end of the current season. Messi was averse to talking about his future before the World Cup 2022.The Argentine not only won the tournament but also won the Golden Ball for his efforts in the competition.

The forward led Argentina to their third World Cup victory by scoring seven goals and dishing out three assists. However, a recent report also claimed, Messi and his teammate Neymar are thinking about leaving the French champions.

While Barcelona are rumoured to be eager to reconcile with their former player (Messi). Moreover, there has also been interest from Saudi Arabian clubs Al-Nassr and Al-Hilal as well as MLS team Inter Miami.

But PSG are committed to keeping Messi while Neymar’s future still remains uncertain. Club director Luis Campos recently disclosed that negotiations for a new contract for Messi are presently underway.

According to journalist Guillem Balague, who also verified that talks are still in progress: The first in-person meeting between Campos and Messi’s agent and father Jorge Messi took place in Paris on Wednesday.

There is speculation that Messi wants to continue playing football in Europe, and PSG are the only team that have made a competitive offer.

According to the article, the parties have not yet agreed on specifics like the duration of the contract and compensation.

However, both parties are committed to finding a solution, and it is anticipated that talks will continue over the coming weeks.

Messi started the Champions League match against Bayern Munich on Tuesday after returning from injury, but he was unable to stop his team from losing the first leg 1-0.

Messi will be aiming to assist PSG get back on track when they play Lille in Ligue 1 on Sunday after losing three straight games in all competitions.

In 26 competitive games for PSG this season, the Argentine has 15 goals and 14 assists.
