Manchester United agrees £60m deal with Chelsea for Mason Mount

Manchester United Mason Mount

Manchester United have reportedly completed a £60 million deal with Chelsea for Mason Mount, who will join the club on a five-year contract.

The 24-year-old has been extensively linked with a move to Manchester United in recent weeks, but the club has been frustrated in its negotiations with Premier League competitors.

Chelsea are thought to have rejected a £55 million offer from Manchester United earlier this week, but the two clubs have subsequently resumed talks about a deal.

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the two clubs have reached an agreement, with Manchester United willing to pay £60 million for the England international.

According to Romano, the Red Devils will pay a set sum of £55 million plus £5 million in add-ons, refusing to reach Chelsea’s £65 million valuation of the dynamic playmaker.

Mason Mount Man United medical to be done soon

Mount’s contract at Old Trafford is said to be effective until June 2028, with the two parties settling on personal terms “weeks ago.”

The Chelsea youth product is set to have a physical with the 20-time English champions after the weekend before his move to Manchester is announced.

Man United were also linked with Declan Rice, but the West Ham United captain is set to join Arsenal, and Red Devils head coach Erik ten Hag is claimed to have always considered Mount as his primary priority in that part of the pitch.

Ten Hag is believed to have been drawn to the Englishman’s versatility, as he can play in central midfield or further up the pitch.

Mount struggled to make an impact for Chelsea during a chaotic 2022-23 season, but he did battle injury issues and missed the conclusion of the season following a pelvic operation.

The attacker will depart the Blues after 195 appearances in all competitions, scoring 33 goals and providing 37 assists.

Mount has three goals and eight assists in 35 Champions League appearances, with Manchester United prepared to return to Europe’s premier cup competition next season.

Meanwhile, the Englishman has appeared in the Premier League on 129 occasions, scoring 27 goals and providing 24 assists.

Mount is expected to be Man United’s first signing of the summer transfer season, but the club also wants to bring in a centre-forward and at least one custodian before the market closes.
