Manchester United’s Mason Mount ruled out until after international break

Mason Mount injury

Mason Mount has been ruled out of Manchester United‘s next two home games following an injury suffered against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

Mount will be out until after the upcoming international break in September due to the injury.

According to a statement on the club’s website, the injury is a “slight complaint” that was discovered over the weekend.

As a result, he will now miss Manchester United’s league games against Nottingham Forest and Arsenal.

Mount has started both of United’s Premier League games this season, taking on a more prominent position alongside Casemiro.

However, as the Red Devils have struggled in the early stages of the season, the £65 million signing from Chelsea has received some criticism.

Erik ten Hag’s team were fortunate not to surrender in a 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on the opening weekend, and they also benefited from a late disputed penalty ruling.

However, luck was not on their side this weekend in North London, as United were defeated 2-0 by Tottenham Hotspur.

With Mount out for a while and Scott McTominay clearly out of the picture, Christian Eriksen is the most likely replacement.

That is unless the club can quickly complete a deal to bring in a midfielder before the weekend, which is thought to be high on Ten Hag’s agenda.

Mount will also miss a third consecutive England training camp due to injury.

The 24-year-old hasn’t played for his country since a World Cup quarter-final loss to France in December.

Mount was absent from both squads in March and June, when England began their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign with four wins out of four and a commanding lead at the top of their group.

Gareth Southgate will name his next group in the coming weeks ahead of England’s games against Ukraine and Scotland, the latter of which being a friendly at Hampden Park.
