Virat Kohli is still one of the greatest and most influential batters in the world. Many young and aspiring cricketers look up to the 34-year-old as an inspiration. Former Pakistan Under-19 hitter Shayan Jahangir is another player Kohli has encouraged. Jahangir is now a member of the USA senior cricket squad.
Jahangir rose to prominence during the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 Qualifier, scoring his first century against Nepal in Group A. Following his spectacular tonne, Jahangir stepped up to discuss his future plans.
In response, Jahangir remarked that he would like to face ace Indian hitter Virat Kohli once and show him that there is “another batter on the block.”
“To play against Virat Kohli, that’s my ultimate goal. Play against him, and show there’s another batter on the block, waiting for the opportunities in all these big leagues,”
Jahangir told ICC after his century against Nepal.
So far, Jahangir is toping the run scoring charts scoring 210 in his 3 matches in the WC Qualifiers.
In the World Cup Qualifier game between the United States and Nepal, the United States batted first after losing the toss. Sushant Modani got the team off to a fantastic start, scoring 42 runs. In addition, Shayan Jahangir’s unbroken 100 runs in 79 balls powered the USA to a total of 207 runs.
Nepal, who came in to chase the goal down, put forth an outstanding performance with the bat. Kushal Bhurtel, who batted first for the team, scored 39 runs in 54 deliveries. The undefeated knocks of Bhim Sharki and Dipendra Singh Airee, though, helped Nepal chase down the mark and win the game in spectacular manner.
Sharki made 77* runs off 114 balls, while Airee made 39* runs off 32 deliveries. Nepal chased down the target, collecting 211 runs in 43 overs and winning by six wickets. The United States is currently in a difficult position, sitting last in Group A of the World Cup Qualifiers with zero points after three matches.
