Arsenal could reportedly announce the signing of Fabio Vieira from Porto as early as Friday. Over the last few months, the 22-year-old has been connected with Manchester United and Liverpool.

While the Reds reportedly have the first refusal on his signing this summer. Arsenal are allegedly closing in on Vieira’s signing after agreeing to a deal with Porto on Friday that will see the Gunners pay an upfront price of €35M.

With performance-related add-ons, the sum could grow to €40 million (£34.2 million). And Vieira appears to have wasted no time in completing the transition to Mikel Arteta’s side.

According to Ryan Taylor of The Express, Vieira has already arrived in London and will undergo his Arsenal physical on Friday before an announcement is made.

Arsenal are expected to confirm Vieira’s signing this weekend, but if the process moves faster than expected, the Portugal Under-21 international might be unveiled within the next 24 hours.

Vieira is expected to sign a five-year contract with Arsenal until the summer of 2027. While Porto allegedly agreed to a smaller cost than his €50 million (£42.7 million) release clause.

The versatile midfielder, who can play in the number eight, number ten, or out wide, has spent the past 14 years at Porto.

The Portuguese has scored 10 goals and provided 18 assists in 76 appearances. Vieira scored seven of those goals and set up 16 more in 39 appearances across all tournaments last term.

Only Rafa (15) of Benfica set up more top-flight goals last season than Vieira, who won the league and cup double with Sergio Conceicao’s side in 2021-22.
