It is a much-needed victory for Barcelona as they comfortably clobbered Villareal 2-1 on Tuesday though it was somewhat marred by an injury Messi endured by half-time. Messi, who left by half-time received some treatment in the first half.
Messi’s withdrawal could pose a serious threat to Barca although coach Ernesto Valverde appeared calm after the match. “When something happens to Messi, everyone stops, not only on the field, but in the stands as well,” Valverde said. Messi won the FIFA’s Men’s Player of the Year award on Monday.
Barcelona will visit Getafe in La Liga on Saturday and will play Inter Milan at home in the Champions League four days later.
