Chelsea Frank Lampard

Chelsea are allegedly close to hiring Frank Lampard as their new head coach on a temporary basis. When Graham Potter was dismissed from the dugout on Sunday, one of his coaching staff, Bruno Saltor, was named interim manager.

The Spaniard earned a goalless draw against Liverpool on Tuesday, with Chelsea putting up an encouraging performance. Moreover, he appeared to position himself in line to remain in charge for future games.

Meanwhile, Lampard, the club legend and former Blues manager, was present at Stamford Bridge for that match. And now it appears that his unexpected visit included negotiations with the owners for an interim role.

Throughout Wednesday, it was claimed that Luis Enrique had travelled to London and had positive talks with Chelsea. The reports also claimed that after Enrique’s talk, discussions with Nagelsmann and other contenders will be followed by.

Nonetheless, Lampard is poised to take over as manager on a season-long contract, according to The Athletic. The parties involved have held negotiations, and Lampard appears to be willing to embrace the opportunity for a Chelsea return.

The former England international will take on charges after getting fired by Everton & being jobless for over 2 months.

The New Interim manager for Chelsea – Frank Lampard

Lampard gained just two points in his final eight league games for Everton, and the Englishman seems content to wait until the summer and beyond for new possibilities.

Instead, Lampard is expected to return to the Chelsea bench as an interim manager on Saturday when they face Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux, four days before the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.

Lampard previously managed Chelsea between July 2019 and January 2021, recording 44 victories and 23 losses in 84 games.

During that time, Lampard led Chelsea to a top-four finish in the 2019-20 Premier League despite a transfer restriction, reached an FA Cup final, and led the team to first place in the top division in December of the 2020-21 season.

However, he was forced to leave the league after an eight-match run in which he suffered five defeats and accumulated only seven points.
