According to reports, renowned Indian seamer Jasprit Bumrah will travel to New Zealand for back surgery. The National Cricket Academy (NCA) administrators and the medical staff of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have chosen Kiwi surgeon Rowan Schouten for Bumrah’s surgery.
Schouten has previously treated Jofra Archer, and plans are underway to fly the Indian pacer to Auckland soon. Bumrah will likely need 20 to 24 weeks to fully recuperate, which will keep him out of action until September.
Thus, this will keep the 29-year-old out from the upcoming IPL and also the World Test Championship final in June. Bumrah last participated in a competitive international game against Australia in September 2022.
The BCCI is doing all in its power to get India’s top fast bowler ready for the ODI World Cup, which will be held in India in October. Bumrah has already missed significant events in 2022 such as the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup.
The back surgery to keep Bumrah out of World Test Championship final
According to sources, Bumrah will have surgery by Christchurch-based surgeon Schouten. Schouten had previously collaborated with Grahame Inglis, a well-known figure in the orthopedics industry.
Shane Bond, a former pacer who is currently the bowling coach of the Mumbai Indians and is likely to have recommended Schouten’s name, was one of the New Zealand athletes on whom Inglis had conducted procedures.
In the world of sports, Schouten is a well-known figure who is regarded as a master of his craft who understands how to carry out the process. In addition, he had helped Inglis with the surgery on Australian speedster James Pattinson, as well as the back operations on Ben Dwarshuis, Jason Behrendorff, and Jofra Archer.
Meanwhile, the Men in Blues are looking to fill Bumrah’s vacant shoes in the WTC final. Thus, Umesh Yadav was chosen by the team management in the 3rd Test of the current ongoing series between India and Australia.
The selectors wanted to rest Shami, who is the primary replacement for Bumrah but they also wanted to give Yadav a chance ahead of the final.
