Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix is said to be keen on joining Newcastle United this summer.
The Portugal international played for Chelsea on loan for the second half of the 2022-23 season, scoring four goals in 20 games.
The loan agreement did not include a buy option, but Felix was reportedly under the belief that Chelsea would try to recruit him on a permanent basis.
However, Atletico president Enrique Cerezo indicated that Chelsea has advised him that a permanent transaction will not be pursued.
Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea’s new head coach, was thought to be behind the decision, and as a result, Felix will return to Atletico.
During his four years with the Spanish club, the attacker has made 131 competitive games, scoring 34 goals and giving 18 assists.
Felix, on the other hand, has a strained relationship with Diego Simeone and is not part of the manager’s plans.
The 23-year-old is slated to move again this summer, and he appears to be aiming for a return to the Premier League.
According to The Sun, Felix prefers a move to Newcastle, where he would be able to compete in the Champions League.
The Magpies are scheduled to compete in the group stage for the first time since the 2002-03 season, when they finished fourth.

Atletico Madrid are willing to let Felix leave on another loan for a modest fee plus the player’s salaries.
However, Felix’s weekly remuneration of £200,000 may prove to be a stumbling hurdle due to Newcastle’s tight wage structure.
The Atletico Madrid forward has also been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain, although he prefers a move to the Premier League.
