Liverpool to push ahead with Ryan Gravenberch approach

Ryan Gravenberch to Liverpool

Liverpool are reportedly working hard this summer to secure the transfer of Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch.

The 21-year-old left Ajax after four years to join Bayern last summer in a deal worth an initial €18 million (£15.4 million).

Gravenberch, on the other hand, struggled for regular first-team football in his debut season in Bavaria, starting only five of his 33 appearances across all competitions in 2022-23.

Ryan’s contract expires in four years, but the midfielder has indicated that he is eager to leave the Allianz Arena this summer in pursuit of regular game time.

It remains to be seen whether the Netherlands international will find his way into head coach Thomas Tuchel’s first-team plans after replacing Julian Nagelsmann in March.

Bayern president Herbert Hainer recently brushed down speculation about Gravenberch’s future and believes the teenager will see more playing time next season.

Speaking to Bild, Hainer said:

“In my opinion, he is an incredibly talented player. That’s why we brought him.”

“He got more playing time towards the end of the season. I’m sure he’ll get more playing time in the future.”

Nonetheless, a number of big European teams, including Liverpool, are claimed to have been made aware of Gravenberch’s plight, with manager Jurgen Klopp said to be a fan of the midfielder.

The Reds are aiming to add to their purchase of Alexis MacAllister from Brighton & Hove Albion in the midfield ahead of the 2023-24 season.

Liverpool are said to have held conversations with Gravenberch near the end of the 2022-23 season about a possible summer transfer to Anfield.

According to the Daily Mail, the Merseysiders are currently attempting to sign the Dutchman, however any suggested move would have to wait until the Netherlands’ European Under-21 Championship campaign was completed.

According to the article, Liverpool could face stiff competition from Premier League rivals Manchester United, who are also looking for new midfielders this summer.

Erik ten Hag, manager of the Red Devils, is familiar with compatriot Gravenberch, having coached him at Ajax.

Manchester City have also been linked with Gravenberch, but Arsenal appear to have cooled their interest as they focus on top midfield target Declan Rice.
