Man United-linked Victor Osimhen close to signing new Napoli deal

Napoli sets asking price for Victor Osimhen

Napoli are apparently close to reaching an agreement with attacker Victor Osimhen on a new long-term contract.

Since joining the Italian giants from Lille in 2020, the Nigeria international has established himself as a modern-day icon.

In total, 59 goals and 14 assists have been scored in 101 games across all competitions, but 26 goals in the 2022-23 Serie A season helped Napoli win their first top-flight title in over three decades.

However, in the months following that triumph, there has been much conjecture about the 24-year-old’s contract, which is set to end in 2025.

Osimhen has made no secret of his ambition to play in the Premier League, where he is known to have a large number of admirers.

Manchester United and Chelsea have both been widely connected with the frontman, as have Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, who are both in need of new faces in their assault.

Victor Osimhen to stay in Napoli

Nonetheless, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has maintained his staunch stance on Osimhen’s future, claiming that only PSG has the financial clout to entice him to sell.

With the Ligue 1 winners garnering bids for Kylian Mbappe, there is still a chance that they may make a significant move for a new high-profile striker in the near future.

However, according to Sky Sport Italia, Napoli has never been close to reaching a new agreement with Osimhen.

Discussions are claimed to have taken place recently, and the next step is to complete terms before making a public announcement.

According to the article, a €150 million (£128.49 million) release clause might be included in Osimhen’s contract, while Napoli was eager to press for a far greater buy-out option.

Although the length of the new agreement has not been announced, it is expected that it will go until at least 2027, if not longer, with Napoli seeking to enhance their position.

Kim Min-jae, who signed for Bayern after the Bundesliga champions matched his €50 million release clause, has already cost Napoli a substantial money this summer.
