Man United hoping to secure Rasmus Hojlund deal over the weekend

Rasmus Hojlund to Manchester United

Manchester United are allegedly hoping to complete a deal for Atalanta BC center-forward Rasmus Hojlund before the weekend is through.

The Red Devils are thought to have made their initial approach for the Denmark international, with a €50 million (£42.8 million) set fee plus €10 million (£8.6 million) in add-ons reportedly offered to Atalanta.

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the Italian club is unlikely to accept the current offer, although a compromise of roughly €70 million (£60 million) plus bonuses may be negotiated.

According to Di Marzio, Manchester United are hoping to sign the centre-forward by the end of the weekend.

Paris Saint-Germain are also claimed to be interested in the 20-year-old, with the French club offering a better salary, but Hojlund has apparently stated that he only wants to move to Old Trafford during the summer transfer window.

After moving to Italy from Sturm Graz, the Dane scored 10 goals and had four assists in 34 games for Atalanta during the 2022-23 season.

Man United were defeated 2-0 by Real Madrid in Houston on Wednesday evening, with the Red Devils struggling in the last third of the pitch.

After the game, Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag emphasised the significance of bringing in a new center-forward as soon as possible.

“When you play against Real Madrid, you will concede chances because it is a very good team with very good football players,”

Ten Hag said when addressing Onana’s first appearance.

“But, overall, we did quite well and in the moment we conceded chances, he was there. I think everyone has seen, he has made a good debut.”

“We have a lot of work to do between him and and the defending part. You could see the second goal where we are not closing the back post, it can’t be that and a goal will come there and that’s things that are the rules we have to follow. It will come quickly that we integrate that into our way of play.”

The Red Devils have already signed two players this summer, Mason Mount from Chelsea and Andre Onana from Inter Milan, with the latter making his debut against Real Madrid.

Next up is Man United locking horns with Borussia Dortmund in their final pre-season tour friendly on Sunday before returning to Europe for matches against Lens and Athletic Bilbao on August 5 and 6, respectively.
