Man United’s Jesse Lingard on his way to Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest Lingard

Jesse Lingard, a former attacker for Manchester United, has been signed by Nottingham Forest on a free transfer for a one-year contract. The newly promoted team reportedly want to sign him ahead of West Ham United because of his demands for a salary of about £180,000 per week.

Manchester United and Jesse Lingard’s relations were downgrading day by day and the 29-year-old was desperate to move away from Old Trafford.

The Red Devils were also keen on cashing in on the Englishman and thus transfer news for the England international was very much expected this summer.

Thus, this turned out to be one of the major reasons which was impeding a return to the Hammers. However, the Reds didn’t make the announcement on their official website until they had reached a contract with the England international on Thursday.

After spending more than 20 years with the Red Devils and graduating from the Old Trafford academy, Lingard left United on June 30 when his contract expired. Thereafter having a transfer request rejected by the club last summer, the attacker saw little action under both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick last season.

Moreover, the England international only started 2 games in the Premier League for Man United in the last season.

Nottingham Forest other recruitment apart from Lingard

Forest has been active this summer updating their roster in preparation for their eagerly anticipated return to the Premier League. Thus, Jesse Lingard became the 11th signing for The Garibaldi this summer.

Other players’ names include:

Dean Henderson, Neco Williams, Moussa Niakhate, Omar Richards, Lewis O’Brien, Harry Toffolo, Taiwo Awoniyi, Giulian Biancone, Brandon Aguilera and Wayne Hennessey.

These have all arrived at the City Ground with Lingard in advance of the 2022–23 season.

Lingard played 230 times for the first team at Old Trafford throughout the course of his 22-year tenure with United, making 35 goals in the process. He also earned 32 England caps during his time in Manchester.

The youth product also contributed to United’s victories in the FA Cup, Community Shield, EFL Cup, and Europa League in 2016.

It will be interesting to see how Nottingham Forest will mould themselves into the Premier League. While one can not forget that Forest have won the Champions League twice. Thus, what position will they be in competition for we will have to wait and see?

Will they be the new Leicester, we will have to wait and see.
