Manchester United are allegedly in talks with Nice about signing defender Jean-Clair Todibo in the final days of the summer transfer season.
Last season, the 23-year-old appeared 34 times for the French club, 33 of which came from the start, helping the club finish ninth in Ligue 1 in 2022-23.
Todibo has made 105 appearances for Francesco Farioli’s side since coming on loan from Barcelona in January 2021, before making the move permanent in the summer of that year.
Despite being called up to an international camp, the centre-back has yet to make a senior appearance for France, but he has represented his country at Under-20 level.
Manchester United are interested in signing Todibo in the last days of the summer transfer season, according to The Sun, due to an ongoing injury issue.
The Red Devils will be without World Cup winner Raphael Varane for at least a month after the 30-year-old was forced off during Saturday’s match against Nottingham Forest.
After falling behind at Old Trafford, Erik ten Hag’s men went on to complete a comeback, with Swede Victor Lindelof partnering Lisandro Martinez at the heart of the hosts’ defence in the second half.
According to the source, Manchester United are preparing to offer Todibo a £385,000-per-week deal in order to entice him away from Nice, which would dramatically enhance the player’s pay.
Ten Hag’s team is also expected to offer the centre-back a £3 million signing bonus, despite the Frenchman is use to turning down large sums of money.
Todibo is said to have turned down an approach from an undisclosed Saudi Pro League club earlier this summer, with the defender poised to earn £18 million per year if he would have moved to the Middle East.
Nice are apparently requesting £47 million for the 23-year-old, but it remains to be seen whether Man United can get the player’s services for less before 11 p.m. on Friday.
Last week, it was rumoured that United were close to signing Todibo for just £34 million, with any move to Old Trafford contingent on the departure of Harry Maguire.
The Three Lions stalwart has been stripped of his captaincy at Old Trafford, and the club is aggressively looking to move him before the end of the summer transfer season.
Eight days after a dismal loss to Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United head to North London to face Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal in the Premier League at the Emirates.
With Varane and Luke Shaw ruled out owing to injuries, Lindelof and Martinez are slated to play central defence against the title-chasing Gunners.
