Manchester United reignite their interest in signing Juventus midfielder

Adrien Rabiot to Manchester United

Manchester United are prepared to rekindle their interest in Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot during the summer transfer season, according to reports.

The Red Devils were reportedly in talks to sign the 28-year-old last summer, before he entered the final year of his contract with Juventus.

A £15 million deal was reportedly agreed between Manchester United and Juventus, and the former’s director of football, John Murtough, rushed straight to Italy to push the deal through.

However, the two parties were unable to reach an agreement on personal conditions, and Rabiot remained in Turin to complete the final 12 months of his Bianconeri contract.

Rabiot has compiled a remarkable set of figures under Massimiliano Allegri this season, scoring 11 goals and setting up four more in 44 outings across all events.

The former PSG midfielder has eight goals in 29 Serie A games, second only to Dusan Vlahovic’s ten for the club, and he has played every minute of their Europa League semi-final run.

However, there appears to be no indication that Rabiot’s contract at the Allianz Stadium will be extended beyond the conclusion of the season, and he might thus become a free agent this summer.

Will Man United complete their pursuit of Adrien Rabiot this time?

According to L’Equipe, Man United will try to sign Rabiot again in the coming window, with Erik ten Hag seeing the 28-year-old as a priority signing.

Newcastle United, according to the source, have also indicated interest in moving the midfielder to the Premier League, where he has stated his ambition to play one day.

The Magpies are quickly catching up to Manchester United in the battle for Rabiot, with the midfielder and Ten Hag holding positive rounds of talks about a possible move to the Theatre of Dreams.

Given his outstanding season, Juventus are thought to be willing to keep Rabiot on their books, although they may struggle to lock him down to new terms given their unpredictable financial situation.

The Frenchman joined the Old Lady on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in 2019, and he has since scored 17 goals and set up 10 more in 173 games for the Italian giants.

Rabiot has won three Serie A titles, the Coppa Italia, and the Supercoppa Italiana in black and white, and he also started five games for France in the 2022 World Cup, including the final loss to Argentina.

Despite having to accept loss in their pursuits of Rabiot and Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong, Manchester United finished the summer window with two astute midfield additions in Christian Eriksen and Casemiro, both of whom have made instant contributions at Old Trafford.

A new midfielder could be on the menu this summer if Scott McTominay decides to leave Old Trafford, but a striker is thought to be the Red Devils’ top priority.
