Real Madrid considering summer move for Erling Braut Haaland

Haaland to Madrid

Manchester City forward Erling Braut Haaland is reportedly a target for Real Madrid during the summer transfer window. During his time at Borussia Dortmund, Los Blancos were frequently associated with the Norwegian international.

However, Man City ultimately prevailed in the race to recruit the 22-year-old on a five-year deal. During the 2022–23 season, Haaland maintained his impressive scoring output from recent seasons.

The Man City striker has scored 33 goals in 34 appearances for the Citizens in all competitions. The forward has now scored 27 goals in the Premier League this season.

While Haaland has registered 5 crucial Champions League goals for the Sky Blues. Although Haaland has been on a fantastic scoring streak, it has been claimed that Man City are better without him.

Pep’s side has grown accustomed to playing without a designated center-forward. Moreover, it has also been said that the PL Champions are less agile when Haaland is in their lineup.

Thus, Real Madrid, the current European champions, reportedly thinks there is a chance for a summer deal for Haaland. According to the reports, the forward is thought to be the best long-term successor for Karim Benzema, who has yet to agree to a new agreement with the Bernabeu.

Real Madrid to go after Haaland this summer

At the end of June, Benzema’s current contract is set to expire; the forward is expected to sign a new one, but he will turn 36 this year, and this season has been troubled by injuries for the former Lyon prodigy.

Real Madrid may try to clinch what would be an extraordinary deal in the forthcoming market after apparently initially looking to move for Haaland in the summer of 2024.

Before moving to the Etihad Stadium last summer, Haaland made 89 appearances for Dortmund, scoring 86 goals and providing 23 assists.

According to reports, the attacker does not intend to play the majority of his football for Man City and has a clear desire to play in Spain.

Together with Benzema, Real Madrid is the only team with which Marco Asensio, Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Dani Ceballos, Nacho, and Mariano Diaz have contracts that go until the end of the current season.

The future of head coach Carlo Ancelotti has also been the subject of rumours, though a lot may rely on how the capital giants complete the season.

Los Blancos will lead 5-2 into the return leg of their Champions League match against Liverpool next week. They are also in the Copa del Rey semifinals, where they are down 1-0 to Barcelona.

However, Real Madrid, who are now ranked second in the rankings and nine points behind Barcelona after the same amount of games (24), has a lot of ground to make up in La Liga.
