Reports: Real Madrid trying to sign Tottenham’s Harry Kane for £68m’

Real Madrid to sign Harry Kane

Real Madrid are said to be interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane for a low sum.

The La Liga giants had no plans to make a big-money acquisition in attack ahead of the summer transfer window, believing that Karim Benzema would sign a new contract.

The Frenchman, though, has elected to join Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad, leaving Los Blancos bereft of choices in the midst of their assault.

Joselu and Rodrigo Moreno of Espanyol and Leeds United, respectively, have been linked with a move to the Bernabeu, although they would not be considered first choice.

This has naturally sparked interest in Kane, who has one year left on his Spurs contract and is nowhere close to signing a new deal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs’ plans for Kane have been unclear, with some claiming that they will keep him regardless of any offers, while others implying that bids from international teams may be entertained.

Real Madrid could take advantage of situation of Harry Kane at Spurs

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is thought to be opposed to selling to a Premier League opponent, specifically Manchester United, and may reject any bids from the Red Devils.

Nonetheless, Marca believes that Real president Florentino Perez will try to negotiate a deal for much less than Kane’s asking price.

Levy apparently considered selling to a foreign club for £80 million, particularly if it kept Kane away from United, but the article suggests that Real Madrid is seeking a €80 million (£68.65 million) offer.

Real are reportedly opposed to going above that number, owing to the fact that Kane could become available on a free transfer in 2024 if he does not leave North London in the coming months.

Spurs are said to be in need of funds following their failure to qualify for Europe, with Levy apprehensive of the upward trajectory of Newcastle United and Aston Villa, which contributed to their eighth-place finish in the Premier League in 2022-23.

Kane has consistently stated that he wants to become the Premier League’s all-time leading goalscorer, a total that is practically out of reach even if he stays in England’s top tier for another year.

Real officials have also identified Chelsea forward Kai Havertz, however it is unclear whether they will be able to negotiate a fee with their colleagues at Stamford Bridge.
