Tottenham rejects Bayern Munich’s club-record fee for Harry Kane

Kane to Bayern Munich

Tottenham Hotspur reportedly rejected an £85 million bid from Bayern Munich for Harry Kane, with the Premier League club refusing to accept anything less than £100 million.

On Monday, executives from the Bundesliga champions, including CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen and technical director Marco Neppe, met with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy to explore a potential deal for England captain Harry Kane.

According to a recent source, Bayern Munich are ‘near’ to agreeing on a deal for the 30-year-old, who is expected to go to Allianz Arena this summer.

According to The Independent, Thomas Tuchel’s team had a second offer of £85 million rejected by Spurs and will have to bid at least £100 million to officially initiate discussions with the striker.

According to the source, Bayern are willing to go as low as £90 million, but Levy has stated that any bid less than £100 million will be rejected, despite the fact that Kane’s contract expires in 11 months.

PSG and Manchester United have both been linked with a move for the striker, although a move to the former is considered doubtful, while the latter is closing in on a deal for Atalanta BC’s Rasmus Hojlund.

Last season, Kane scored 32 goals and assisted five times in 49 appearances across all competitions, with 30 of those goals coming in the Premier League.

Spurs finished ninth in the table, though, which means that the team will not play in Europe for the 2023-24 season.

The striker is chasing the Premier League’s all-time scoring record, currently lying second behind Alan Shearer, who scored 260 times in the tournament.

Kane has 213 Premier League goals and is Tottenham’s all-time leading scorer with 280.

Lucas Hernandez is Bayern Munich’s club-record signing, having cost the Bundesliga champions over £69 million during the 2019 transfer window.

The 27-year-old has since joined PSG this summer, increasing Bayern’s transfer budget and allowing the club to make a club-record approach for Kane.

Tottenham will continue their preparations for the 2023-24 season on Sunday with a friendly against Shakhtar Donetsk before facing Barcelona in the Joan Gamper Trophy final the following week.

Spurs will subsequently kick off their new Premier League season against Brentford on August 13, although it is unclear whether Kane will be available for selection.
