Tweaking reformed constitution by BCCI would mean ‘ridiculing’ SC, says Lodha Panel secy

The BCCI’s move to tweak reforms proposed by the Supreme court of India would be tantamount to “ridiculing” the highest judicial authority in the country, said the Lodha Committee secretary Gopal Sankaranarayanan. He played a key role in drafting the revised version of the BCCI constitution.

“If this is permitted to be done and if it remains unchallenged in court and the Supreme Court does not either have a challenge before it or it does not take up suo motu, it will mean ridiculing of the Supreme Court and everything that it did over the years,” Sankaranarayanan told the media. He also said that it would mean going back to square one with these changes.

The news of a change to the constitution came on Saturday when Jay Shah, the new BCCI secretary doled out the agenda of the meet to be held on December 1 in Mumbai. The most prominent amendment would be altering the cooling-off period of the office-bearers. Moreover, it would not matter if the decision is unanimous or not, said Sankaranarayanan. It is left to be seen what the newly elected BCCI team under Sourav Ganguly does to this whole issue.
