The Holistic International Pravasi Spors Association, set up with a focus on the Pravasi Bharti community is designing an annual calendar for ‘Pravasi Sports’. The ultimate vision being targeting all 207 countries where our Diaspora currently resides. The whole process of identifying talented sportspersons across the globe and creating a database for the same is an arduous task and the team at HIPSA has been diligently working on the same, over the past few months.
D Keshav, who is part of the Operations committee is overseeing the talent creation process and sources from the team indicate that the work is almost complete across a range of sports. The focus in the first year is to ensure that players from a minimum of 50 countries come to India and compete in leagues and exhibition tournaments and every year new players from atleast 10 new countries are added on.
Confirmed sources have indicated that Kabaddi, Cricket, Football & Athletics are confirmed as part of the calendar of events in the first year. The exact dates and venues for all the events are to be announced shortly. It is expected that events are to begin in as early as March 2024, as the first two months have gone in putting the plan together.
Pravasi Sports is a concept that was first conceived by the Prime Minister in 2019 when he expressed his desire to make a database of talented Pravasi players and think of a way to call them to come and play in India, and HIPSA is the first organization that has been set up to execute the same. HIPSA, recently entered into an MOU with the Haryana State Government and is now in talks with Diaspora bodies, overseas, for a collaboration across different continents. Ms Kanthi D Suresh, who has taken over as the President of HIPSA, is believed to be in talks with large Indian diaspora organizations in the USA, and is likely to establish an MOU with the same.
HIPSA is also believed to be in talks with many important Indian stalwarts to come on board into the Advisory Council for the achievement of the objectives laid down in its 10 year Vision document. The advisory council as seen in the HIPSA website says, Coming soon!
