Barcelona are said to be interested in re-signing both Lionel Messi and Neymar this summer, with the Catalan club checking to see whether they can afford to bring the two stars back to Camp Nou ahead of the 2023-24 season.
Joan Laporta, the club’s president, has stated that Messi is a top priority for the La Liga champions, with the Argentina international set to depart Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.
Messi is rumoured to have had lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia, but he is eager to return to Camp Nou after his tearful departure in the summer of 2021.
Due to Barcelona’s financial difficulties, the seasoned attacker left on a free transfer, with PSG signing him on a two-year contract that expires at the end of June.
Meanwhile, Neymar played with Barcelona from 2013 to 2017, earning two La Liga titles, three Copa del Rey trophies, and the Champions League during a hugely successful stint alongside Messi.
Barcelona are considering re-signing Messi and Neymar ahead of next season, according to FootballTransfers.
Barcelona could have back the duo of Messi and Neymar
A move for Messi would be less problematic than one for Neymar, who will become a free agent at the end of June.
However, the World Cup winner’s exorbitant salary would have to be factored in, with Barcelona having to make room in their wage budget.
Messi has 20 goals and 19 assists in 38 appearances for PSG this season, and his current contract includes a clause that allows him to stay in Paris until June 2024.
However, the Argentine will go this summer, possibly joined by Neymar, who is also frequently linked with a move away from the French champs.
The Brazil international has 18 goals and 17 assists in 29 club games during the 2022-23 season, and he has two years remaining on his contract.
Manchester United and Chelsea have recently been linked with the 31-year-old, with PSG reportedly willing to let him depart on loan.
Barcelona are reportedly willing to’sell some of their best talents’ in order to achieve what would be a spectacular return for the two.
Saudi Arabia is allegedly still a “serious contender” for Messi, although Barcelona will push hard to re-sign the 35-year-old this summer.
