Barrett brothers hit by grandfather’s death on eve of RWC quarter-final

On the eve of the World Cup quarter-final showdown against world No.1 Ireland, All Blacks’ Barrett brothers have been hit by family tragedy.

The siblings Beauden, Scott and Jordie lately who became the first trio of brothers to play for the All Blacks at a RWC in New Zealand’s 63-0 win over Canada lost their grandfather Edward Michael (Ted) Barrett unexpectedly. Their Grandfather was 78 at the time of his death.

A death notice in the daily newspaper in New Zealand announced the “sudden passing” of their grandfather on Sunday, which described Edward Michael (Ted) Barrett as a cherished husband, loving father and “adored Granddad Ted of all his grandchildren and his great-grandchild”.

They are sure to miss their grandfather’s funeral on Wednesday in New Plymouth, as they prepare for a crunch quarter-final against Ireland on Saturday.
