Chelsea Football Club confirms Mauricio Pochettino appointment

Mauricio Pochettino to Chelsea

Mauricio Pochettino has been appointed as the new head coach of Chelsea, initially on a two-year contract.

Although Chelsea fired Graham Potter on April 2, the decision was made to oversee a thorough search for a suitable replacement, with Frank Lampard being brought in as a caretaker.

While Lampard was attempting to turn around Chelsea’s woes, it was widely speculated that Pochettino was on the verge of being announced as the club’s next manager.

While the official announcement came considerably later than expected, Chelsea confirmed on Monday afternoon that Pochettino had been given the job.

According to reports, a three-year contract was signed, but the Premier League team says it is an agreement until 2025, with the club having the opportunity to extend the terms by another year.

Mauricio Pochettino to talk on the charge from 1st July for Chelsea

Co-owners Todd Boehly, Behdad Eghbali, Jose E. Feliciano, Mark Walter, and Hansjorg Wyss, as stated by the club’s official website, said

“The sporting team conducted a diligent and thoughtful process that the board is proud of.”

“We are delighted that Mauricio will be joining Chelsea. Mauricio is a world-class coach with an outstanding track record. We are all looking forward to having him on board.”

According to Chelsea, Pochettino will begin work on July 1st, and will be accompanied by Jesus Perez, Miguel d’Agostino, Toni Jimenez, and Sebastiano Pochettino.

However, the 51-year-old is likely to be actively involved in transfer business during the next month as Chelsea attempts to recoup from a 12th-place finish in the Premier League.

Pochettino returns to football after nearly a year away, having previously worked with Paris Saint-Germain between January 2021 and July 2022.

Despite his mixed feelings about his time in France, Pochettino is most recognised for his tenure as manager of Tottenham Hotspur, one of Chelsea’s main opponents, from 2014 to 2019.

Spurs competed for the Premier League championship and advanced to the 2019 Champions League final, where they were defeated by Liverpool.

Pochettino’s debut game as manager will be a friendly against Wrexham on July 19, the first of five pre-season matches to be played in the United States.
