Manchester United to go after Benjamin Sesko this summer

Benjamin Sesko

Benjamin Sesko, a forward for Red Bull Salzburg, is expected to cost Manchester United £45 million this summer.

The 19-year-old’s future at Old Trafford is reportedly being investigated by the Red Devils, while many other elite European teams, including Chelsea, Liverpool, Newcastle United, and Real Madrid, are also keeping an eye on his position.

Sesko scored 21 goals in 29 games while on loan with FC Liefering in Austria’s second division in 2020–21. Sesko then returned to Salzburg and played frequently for the first team the previous season.

The 6’4″ Slovenian international made 37 appearances for the Austrian Bundesliga champions in 2021–2022. Moreover, he contributed seven assists and 10 goals while also gaining Champions League experience.

According to a recent report, Man United has been in touch with Salzburg to talk about potentially bringing Sesko to Old Trafford this summer. The player’s agent, Elvis Basanovic, has reportedly spoken with representatives of Chelsea and Newcastle, but Salzburg wants to keep hold of the youngster unless they receive an offer of at least £45 million.

If Sesko stays at Salzburg for the 2022–23 season, any interested parties might potentially see his value increase.

A recruitment source told

“It’s probably a summer too early for [Sesko], but every club is looking at the price Liverpool paid for Darwin Nunez and thinking it might cost them an extra £20m if they wait another 12 months.”

Other clubs interested in signing Benjamin Sesko

Prior to deciding to sign with Salzburg in 2019, Basanovic has previously claimed that Sesko attracted interest from a number of “very important clubs.”

“We had a lot of offers from really big clubs. Had we decided on the money, Benjamin would have moved to England or Italy,”

Basanovic told SPOX.

“But we decided to look at the bigger picture and the Salzburg project. The biggest clubs in Europe tried to get him. The interest in him was huge; I have never seen anything like it before.”

“Salzburg has given Benjamin a path. Here, he can develop. The people in charge really wanted him, which was important to us. Here he also has a greater chance of playing for the first team sooner or later.”

“Benjamin is one of the greatest talents of his age group in Europe. He has an incredible body, is tall, fast, has great jumping ability, is technically gifted and his greatest strength is his finishing.”

Sesko is one player that is reportedly on Man United’s radar, and their decision to pursue him could be influenced by Cristiano Ronaldo’s future. Man United is rumoured to be in the market for at least one attacker before the deadline of September 1.

When he played the first 45 minutes of Sunday’s 1-1 tie with Rayo Vallecano, the 37-year-old made his preseason debut.

Ronaldo, on the other hand, is reportedly hoping to leave Manchester United by the end of the week. His agent, Jorge Mendes, is reportedly in talks with prospective bidders who have qualified for the Champions League.
