Chelsea interested in signing Brentford duo this summer

Chelsea interested in signing Brentford duo

Chelsea are allegedly considering future bids for David Raya and Ivan Toney of Brentford. The Blues had previously been ranked higher than the Bees in their recent history.

Moreover, they were once four divisions ahead of their fellow West London club. However, Chelsea fell eight points behind Brentford in the Premier League league on Wednesday evening.

Brentford defeated Chelsea in their recent Premier League meeting by 2-0 at Stamford Bridge. At a time when Brentford are established both on and off the pitch, the same cannot be said for Chelsea.

The Blues will not be playing in Europe in 2023-24 and are without a permanent head coach.

The latter is likely to be rectified with the recruitment of Mauricio Pochettino, who has reportedly agreed to become Graham Potter’s long-term replacement.

Nonetheless, the Argentine may not have a substantial degree of power over moves, as evidenced by Chelsea’s current market assessment.

According to football.london, the Chelsea leadership has become fond of Brentford duo Raya and Toney.

Brentford’s custodian Raya, a Spain international, and attacker Toney, a recently-capped England international, have both played key parts in the club’s rise to the top flight.

This has naturally prompted to speculation about their futures, particularly Raya’s, who has only 14 months left on his Brentford deal.

Unless Brentford finish in the top seven of the Premier League, the 27-year-old is expected to turn down the chance to sign new terms, knowing that he is in high demand.

Although Toney has a year left on his contract, Brentford are aware that they may have to cash in on their star player if a bid matches their valuation and the 27-year-old indicates a desire to take on a new challenge.

Chelsea’s long-term futures of Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy are still up in the air, with at least one of both stoppers anticipated to be traded in the summer.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are looking for a new central forward, with the club’s recent drop in the Premier League standings owing to a lack of January additions in that position.
