Darwin Nunez Liverpool

Liverpool are allegedly close to signing Darwin Nunez from Benfica, with the striker expected to have a medical with the Reds on Monday.

The Manchester United target has chosen Liverpool over them and will make a move to Anfield soon. Meanwhile, now Liverpool will have 6 forwards including Sadio Mane and thus it is now clear that some are going to leave this summer.

Darwin Nunez will join Liverpool FC before the start of next season

During the 2021-22 season, the 22-year-old scored 34 goals and added four assists in 41 games across all competitions for his Portuguese side. Over the previous few weeks, Manchester United have been heavily associated with the Uruguay international.

However, Liverpool have recently pushed to the front of the queue for the centre-forward. According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, a deal has been reached between the two parties during a meeting in Portugal.

Thus, now, Nunez will go to England on Monday for a physical and join the Reds squad ahead of the start of next season. According to Romano, the South American will sign a six-year contract with the FA Cup and EFL Cup holders, which will keep him at the club until 2028.

According to BBC Sport, Liverpool are expected to pay an initial cost of €80 million (£68.3 million) plus €20 million (£17 million) in add-ons. The Merseyside giants working rapidly to clinch a deal despite interest from a number of other teams.

Nunez scored 26 goals in 28 league games for Benfica in the 2021-22 season, as well as six goals in ten Champions League matches.

Last season, two of the forward’s six European goals came against Liverpool in the Champions League quarter-finals. This caught the attention of the Reds boss Jurgen Klopp and as a result of which the Uruguayan will now be playing for Liverpool.

Nunez is expected to fly from Spain to England with his agent, so a Reds announcement might come as early as this week.
