David de Gea now expected to leave Manchester United

David de Gea to stay at Manchester United

David de Gea is poised to leave Manchester United on a free transfer this summer, bringing an end to his long affiliation with the 20-time English champions.

The 32-year-old has been with the Red Devils since 2011, making 545 appearances, including 58 appearances in all competitions this season.

De Gea won the Premier League Golden Glove last season after keeping 17 clean sheets, but he was chastised for a series of high-profile gaffes.

The goalkeeper’s contract at Old Trafford is set to expire at the end of this week, and no extension has been announced in Manchester.

According to a recent story, De Gea had already agreed to a new contract with the Red Devils, but the club ultimately backed out of an agreement, leading to the current scenario.

Man United are thought to have made a lower contract offer than was originally agreed upon.

David de Gea to extend or leave Manchester United

The club has the option of extending De Gea’s current contract for another year, but doing so would retain the Spaniard on his exorbitant £375,000-a-week salary, which is not an option.

According to the Daily Mail, Erik ten Hag’s doubt is the primary cause for Man United’s contract agreement reversal.

According to the article, the team’s current head coach has misgivings about De Gea after some poor performances last season, including major gaffes against Sevilla and West Ham United.

De Gea was also chastised for the last goal he allowed, Ilkay Gundogan’s second effort in the FA Cup final earlier this month finding its way into the bottom corner of the net.

The seasoned custodian is reportedly set to leave Old Trafford this summer, with an agreement at this point in the process regarded to be difficult given recent developments.

A number of Saudi Pro competition clubs are thought to be eager to offer De Gea a lucrative contract, which could see him leave European football behind to play in a competition that includes Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, and N’Golo Kante.

Andre Onana of Inter Milan is being linked with a move to Old Trafford as a potential alternative for De Gea, having previously played under Ten Hag at Ajax.

Man United are also reportedly interested in Brentford’s David Raya, who will begin pre-season training in early July to prepare for the 2023-24 season.
