Erik ten Hag and Man United planning to offer Rashford a new contract

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag believes Marcus Rashford will sign a new deal with the club soon. During the 2022-23 season, the 25-year-old has been in fantastic form for the Red Devils, scoring 30 goals and registering 11 assists in 54 games across all competitions.

Rashford scored his 17th Premier League goal of the season against Chelsea on Thursday, as Manchester United secured a top-four spot in the table with a 4-1 victory against the Blues.

The England international’s future remains uncertain, though, as his contract is set to expire next summer, sparking a flurry of conjecture over his long-term position at the club.

According to reports, Rashford wants to be the highest-paid player at Old Trafford in order to commit his future to the club.

Ten Hag wants Rashford to stay

Ten Hag, on the other hand, is unconcerned about potentially losing the club’s youth product, with the Dutchman fully anticipating the team’s leading striker to sign a new contract.

“I expect Marcus Rashford to renew,”

Ten Hag told Viaplay.

“He wants it. Manchester United wants it. He is a child of this club, so I assume this will happen.”

Rashford is only the 12th player in Manchester United history to score 30 goals in a single season, and the first since Robin van Persie in Sir Alex Ferguson’s final season as manager.

“I am happy that finally a player of Manchester United is able to score 30 goals again. But next year the numbers have to be higher,”

Ten Hag added.

Rashford wrote on Instagram after the Chelsea clash:

“I want to thank the club and my teammates for helping make this personal achievement possible.

“After last season, when I struggled for form and fitness, I just wanted to get the feeling back of scoring goals and winning games and that’s what has happened this year.”

“Long may it continue! We have two games to go, and we will give everything to try and lift another trophy.”

Rashford made his first-team debut for the Red Devils in 2015, and he has now played 357 times for the club, scoring 123 goals and contributing 68 assists.

The attacker has already helped Man United win the EFL Cup this season, and he will be looking to lead the team to FA Cup glory in the competition’s final against Manchester City on June 3.
