National capital Delhi is soon going to have the country’s first sports school and university, as the Delhi government cabinet has recently given the go-ahead signal, approving it under the “Delhi Sports University Bill.”
The sports university will offer undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate courses in cricket and hockey. Apart, a CBSE affiliated school with prime focus in sports will also be started. The degree-focussed courses in the university will help sportspersons become eligible for government jobs including civil services.
The main objective of the university is to ensure a full-time education program in various sports to provide athletes with literary skills. Speaking to the media, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said, “Earlier, a sportsperson used to be uncertain about his future just for the fact that if he is not able to establish a career in sports, he will just be called a school pass out. He would not get a job because every job requires at least a graduation degree to get through.”
Now, the project is awaiting the nod of Lt. Governor Anil Baijal’s and thereafter it will be passed in the assembly.
