IPL 2023 – It is time to give Chahal the tag of legend: Sanju Samson

Chahal breaks IPL record

Rajasthan Royals (RR) spinner Yuzvendra Chahal breaks IPL record.

The 56th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 will be remembered as a remarkable game in the tournament’s history.

As the match between the Rajasthan Royals and the Kolkata Knight Riders registered record breaking events.

Yuzvendra Chahal took four wickets in the first innings to become the tournament’s all-time leading wicket-taker. In another historic milestone from the game, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored the fastest IPL fifty in the second innings.

Chahal’s bowling performances (4/25) were extremely important for the Men in Pink, as they limited Kolkata to 149 runs in their 20-overs quota, thereby setting themselves an easy target.

As Chahal reached a historic milestone in his career, RR captain Sanju Samson praised the spinner and stated that the time has come to call him a “legend.”

“I think it is time to give him the tag of legend. He’s been bowling like that for many years. Very grateful and lucky to have him in the franchise. You never need to speak to him. You just have to give him the ball and he knows what exactly to do. He’s a very brave bowler, who loves bowling under pressure. He bowls at the death as well. I am really very happy for him,”

Samson said in the post-match presentation.

Venkatesh Iyer, opposing skipper Nitish Rana, the in-form power-hitter Rinku Singh, and all-rounder Shardul Thakur were among Chahal’s four victims. Only four bowlers from the RR camp picked up wickets, with Chahal finishing with the most.

Chahal had equalled former Chennai Super Kings pacer Dwayne Bravo’s record of 184 wickets in Rajasthan’s previous game against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. In his following game, he took four wickets, bringing his IPL total to 188, and he is only 12 wickets away from achieving 200. Rajasthan would like to win all of their remaining league games in order to secure a postseason berth.
