IPL 2023: RCB vs CSK clash equals record for most sixes

CSK and RCB hits 33 sixes to equal the record

A total of record 33 sixes were hit during the clash between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2023. The Southern derby saw CSK thrashing RCB by an 8-run margin in the 24th match of this season’s IPL.

Both teams lived up to expectations, displaying superb play as they made the most of the M Chinnaswamy Stadium’s short boundaries. Devon Conway struck six sixes in the first innings, followed by Shivam Dube’s five, as CSK piled up 226 runs on the board.

The RCB batters then resumed the streak, as Faf du Plessis blasted four sixes to start the second innings. Glenn Maxwell, on the other hand, lit up the show with as much as eight sixes on his way to a score of 76 in just 36 deliveries.

Suyash Prabhudesai then hit two maximums but couldn’t assist his team over the line, as RCB finished the chase on a score of 218.

With 33 sixes, this match equalized the record for the most sixes hit in an IPL game.

Surprisingly, the top three games of the most sixes chart have RCB and CSK as participating teams. After three losses in five games, the Faf du Plessis-led team will be eager to turn things around against Punjab Kings.

The tournament’s 27th match will take place on Thursday, April 20 at Mohali. This will also be the tournament’s first game played in the afternoon on a weekday.

Punjab Kings last had a lucrative clash when they overcame the KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Kings by two wickets in the final over. In terms of overall performance in the competition, PBKS is in a somewhat stronger position, having won three of the five matches played thus far, compared to RCB’s two wins from the same number of matches.

Thereafter, RCB will return to their home ground to face the Rajasthan Royals in their ‘Go-Green’ encounter on April 23.
