Sofyan Amrabat of Fiorentina has hinted at a summer move to the Premier League, amid reports that Manchester United is interested in signing him in the forthcoming transfer window.
The 26-year-old has been in excellent form for Fiorentina this season, appearing on 48 occasions across all competitions, and he will be hoping to assist his team win the Europa Conference League on Wednesday night.
However, Amrabat’s contract has only one year left on it, and there has been much conjecture about his future in recent months.
Barcelona, who failed to sign him in January, are expected to renew their interest this summer, although Manchester United are also reported to be interested in signing him ahead of the 2023-24 season.
The Moroccan international has called the Premier competition “a fantastic league,” and he believes the “intensity” of England’s top flight would “suit his game.”
“Of course, the Premier League is a fantastic league, one of the strongest in the world,”
Sofyan Amrabat comments on playing in the Premier League
Arambat told reporters ahead of Fiorentina’s clash with West Ham United in the Europa Conference League final.
“It would be nice to play there one day, but it’s not that I want only to go to England, because Spain is nice, Serie A is a nice league.”
“Football has changed a lot, it’s more physical, you have more to be an athlete, the tempo and intensity is higher. Of course, in England the intensity is very high, so I think it could suit me.”
Amrabat was instrumental in Morocco reaching the World Cup semi-finals in 2022, and his performances are thought to have piqued the curiosity of a number of clubs.
Following the tournament in Qatar, Amrabat’s brother Nordin Amrabat stated that he expects a lot of clubs to be interested in signing the midfielder this year.
“I am really incredibly proud of Sofyan,”
he told Dutch outlet De Telegraaf.
“When you play so well on such a stage – in three matches against countries like Croatia, Belgium and Canada – you have a lot going for you.”
“I think the top clubs in Europe who have been sleeping have now woken up. In January (2022), Sofyan himself was already in talks with Tottenham Hotspur, but there was no agreement on the transfer fee with Fiorentina. I think the interested parties will now line up.”
Amrabat joined Fiorentina from Club Brugge in 2020, and he has played 106 times for the club in all competitions, scoring once and assisting once.
Man United are set to acquire at least one new central midfielder this summer, with both Fred and Scott McTominay potentially leaving Old Trafford.
