Manchester United aiming to hijack Chelsea target from the French League

Malo Gusto to Chelsea or United

According to reports, Manchester United will make a last-ditch effort to buy Lyon right-back Malo Gusto before Chelsea does. This year, the 19-year-old has been a key member of Lyon’s squad, starting 15 of his 16 league games.

Gusto’s standout performances have sparked talk of a potential departure, with Chelsea reportedly interested in signing the defender. Although the Blues have already added six players to their roster this month, they still want to strengthen their depth before the transfer window closes.

Cesar Azpilicueta has 18 months left on his contract, while Reece James is dealing with an injury. Thus, Chelsea is rumoured to be considering making a bid for the Lyon player.

Despite rumours that Gusto has already reached an agreement with Chelsea, the Blues might have competition from Man United, who have already signed Wout Weghorst and Jack Butland on loan agreements during the current transfer window.

RMC Sport claims that United is attempting to sabotage Chelsea’s offer and has pleaded with Gusto “not to rush his decision.”

United to steal Malo Gusto from Chelsea

Although United have expressed interest in the full-back, it is unknown at this time whether they will make a move this month or wait until the summer. Given the uncertainty surrounding Aaron Wan-future Bissaka’s with the team, the Red Devils appear to be in the market for a new right-sided defender.

Diogo Dalot has been the player of choice for Erik ten Hag for the bulk of the season, but Wan-Bissaka has started to see more action during the World Cup break.

The Englishman has played in United’s last six Premier League games in place of the injured Dalot, and despite turning in a number of strong performances, he has come under fire from some quarters for failing to stop Eddie Nketiah from scoring Arsenal’s opening goal during Sunday’s 3-2 loss to the Gunners.

Wan-current Bissaka’s deal with United has an option to be extended by another year through June 2024, but he has recently been linked to moves away from the club.

Newcastle United is showing interest in Gusto even though United is hoping to bolster their defence with the Frenchman.

Gusto, a France Under-21 international, has made 54 appearances for Lyon but has yet to get his first senior club goal. Instead, he has contributed six assists.

The first leg of the EFL Cup semifinal between United and Nottingham Forest will take place on Wednesday.
