North Melbourne rookie Tom Wilkinson has quit the club in order to appear in a worldwide reality TV hit. And when he quit footy only two rounds were remaining in the season.
Wilkinson is believed to have got a slot on worldwide reality TV hit The Amazing Race Australia.
He will reportedly be flying to a secret location this week, where he will start filming the new series of the show. Wilkinson will partner Paul Roos’ son Tyler on the show.
Wilkinson was recruited in last year’s rookie draft. He played his game one last time for North’s VFL side last Saturday. Moreover, he has suffered ankle problems this year while playing eight VFL matches.
Cameron Joyce, Roos football manager said, “Tom has certainly shown an incredible amount of persistence and patience, having to bide his time before getting an opportunity on an AFL list. He leaves knowing that he achieved his goal to be drafted and knows he left no stone unturned in his pursuit of an AFL career.”
Further he said, “We certainly wish him all the best for whatever comes next.”
