Rohit reflects on India’s subpar performances in Asia Cup

India vs New Zealand slow over rate

With the Asia Cup 2023 started it is apparent that the Indian team is not at its peak. The team, led by Rohit Sharma, put up a poor performance against Pakistan in their opening Asia Cup game of the tournament, followed by another poor performance against Nepal.

However, with the game against Pakistan was abandoned and India won against Nepal, the team qualified for the Asia Cup 2023 Super Four stage.

Despite the qualification, skipper Rohit Sharma believes that the team still has a lot of work to do in the competition.

“We haven’t been at our best, but a few guys are coming out after months out of the game. Once we move ahead in the Super Fours, there’s no room for complacency, first game, under pressure, Hardik and Ishan got us into a good position. Today our bowling was okay, but the fielding was below par,”

Rohit Sharma said in the post-match presentation after the win against Nepal.

Furthermore, Rohit Sharma was asked if India’s World Cup roster was chosen based on their Asia Cup performances.

Speaking on the subject, the captain stated that every player understood what the World Cup squad would look like before landing in Sri Lanka. According to the seasoned opener, only one or two positions in India’s World Cup roster are secure.

“When we came here, in the back of our mind we knew what our (World Cup) 15 would look like, except maybe one or two spots,”

Rohit said.

On October 8, Team India will kick off their World Cup campaign. They will face Australia at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Soon after, on October 14, they will face Pakistan in Ahmedabad. India will try to win the games against two large nations early in the World Cup to gain momentum.
