Sindhu sole Indian in Forbes ‘highest-paid women athletes’ list

As Forbes released the names of the world’s ‘highest-paid female athletes‘ on Tuesday, there was only one Indian athlete who entered the coveted list. PV Sindhu, with total earnings of 5.5 million dollars tied at the 13th spot in the list topped by Serena Williams of the US. “Sindhu remains India’s most marketable female athlete….She became the first Indian to win the season-ending BWF World Tour finals in 2018,” wrote Forbes.

Serena, who had registered highest total earnings of USD 29.2 million between June 2018 and 2019, among the 15 women athletes, is followed by Naomi Osaka at second with total earnings of USD 24.3 million.

To compile the list, Forbes looks at prize money, salaries, bonuses, endorsements, and appearance fees of the athletes during the last one year. The 15 female athletes pocketed a cumulative USD 146 million, compared to USD 130 million last year.
