The Basque team faced Valencia, another club very affected by the coronavirus, on March 6
Deportivo Alavés has confirmed that 15 people from the club, including three players from the Vitoria first team, tested positive for coronavirus in tests carried out by the entity in recent days. According to the statement they have published , “the club made the decision to carry out the tests within the responsibility policy with the people who are part of our family and the results have shown that it was the best way to urgently locate the cases and put prevention measures are underway to reduce, as far as possible, more contagion ”. According to the club’s brief note, “the people detected are asymptomatic and in good health.”
Those affected by the coronavirus are, in addition to the three soccer players, seven members of the coaching staff and five workers from the Baskonia-Alavés group, who work together for the soccer and basketball teams. In the baskonista set there is no positive case.
Alavés faced Valencia on March 6, who after playing the Champions League game against Atalanta in Italy became the team most punished by the pandemic , which affected five of its players. One of them, José Luis Gayá, was the only one among the infected who played in Mendizorroza against Alavés (1-1). In that match, neither the coach nor the Valencian players later went out to the press room or the mixed zone as a precaution. When the clash began, the footballers of both teams greeted each other with the elbow, but then, of course, they did not avoid contact during the 90 minutes of the game.
This Tuesday, Deportivo Alavés had announced that when the competition resumes, all its teams will wear a blue shirt with the logo of the Basque Health Service (Osakidetza), occupying part of the chest and pants, in tribute to the health workers who fight in first line for the containment of the disease.
Meanwhile, in the Eibar Sports Society they have decided, without making it known through social networks, that since there is no person in the club with symptoms of being infected, they have donated the detection packs to the health authorities of the coronavirus they had received from the Professional Football League. The club understands that there are other priorities at the moment.
