Done Deal: Chelsea agrees £29m deal to sign PSV forward

Noni Madueke to Chelsea

According to reports, Chelsea and PSV Eindhoven have reached an agreement to pay £29 million for the forward Noni Madueke. In recent weeks, the Blues have increased their interest in the 20-year-old as Graham Potter looks to bolster his forward line for the remainder of the season.

Mykhaylo Mudryk was acquired by Chelsea for £88.5 million from Shakhtar Donetsk, while the club also acquired David Datro Fofana from Molde and Joao Felix on loan from Atletico Madrid.

Benoit Badiashile and Andrey Santos have also joined the West London club during a busy January transfer window, and thus, it now looks like the Blues winter business is far from over yet.

This week, it was rumoured that Chelsea had made a £26.6 million approach to PSV to capture Madueke, but the Dutch powerhouses quickly rejected the offer for their star forward.

Now, according to Sky Sports News, Madueke is getting ready to return to England after Potter’s team reportedly reached an agreement with Ruud van Nistelrooy’s group over a £29 million transfer.

Thus, now PSV have sold out their two major forward one to the Reds (Coday Gakpo) and one to the Blues (Noni Madueke).

The sources also states that Chelsea were “extremely insistent” on completing the transaction despite concerns about how the Blues will adhere to Financial Fair Play as they get ready to surpass the £190 million spending threshold this month.

When could Noni Madueke make his Chelsea debut?

Madueke attended the youth programmes of Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace, however he departed England in 2018 before making his senior debut to join the PSV team.

The England Under-21 international has become known as one of the top young players in Europe while playing in the Eredivisie, scoring 20 goals and dishing out 14 assists in 80 games across all competitions.

In 35 games for PSV during the 2021–22 season, Madueke contributed nine goals and six assists, leading the team to victories in the KNVB-Beker and Dutch Super Cup.

However, the Englishman had muscle issues all of last season, and this season, an ankle ailment has limited him to just nine appearances and two goals.

Madueke has played four times for England’s Under-21 team and has represented them at all levels from Under-15 to Under-21, albeit he has yet to directly contribute to a goal.

On Saturday afternoon, Chelsea will play their next Premier League match away to Liverpool, but it is highly doubtful that Madueke will be registered in time to make his Blues debut at Anfield.

The attacker might instead play in Chelsea’s West London derby against Fulham at home on February 3, as Potter’s team looks to move out of 10th-place in the Premier League standings.
