Lionel Messi has allegedly won a record sixth Ballon d’Or. According to reports, just a day after scoring his 614th career goal for Barcelona, Messi claimed back the trophy that he last won in 2015.
However, Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk was in number two in the polling, followed by Cristiano Ronaldo, who had already shared the record of five Ballon d’Ors with Messi until Monday. In women’s category, World Cup winner Megan Rapinoe could allegedly secure the prize on Monday.
In the year 2018, it was Luka Modric who earned the 2018 Ballon d’Or award. He was the one broke Lionel Messi’s and Cristiano Ronaldo’s decade-long over the award. Since 2008, Messi and Ronaldo had been winning every Ballon d’Or Award.
