Jordan Henderson, the captain of Liverpool, is reportedly getting closer to accepting a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabian club Al Ettifaq.
Last week, the Saudi Pro League club appointed Liverpool star Steven Gerrard as their new manager, and he quickly recognised his old Reds teammate as a potential target.
Initially, the England international appeared ready to decline the opportunity to reconnect with Gerrard due to a desire to play at the top level ahead of Euro 2024.
According to a recent source, Henderson has had a change of heart and is likely to make a definitive choice on his future in the next 48 hours.
As per The Athletic, Henderson is considering accepting a lucrative contract offer from the Saudi club.
Henderson to receive an increase in pay from the Saudi club
According to the source, Henderson was presented with a “life-changing” offer that would treble his Liverpool income.
If he accepts Al Ettifaq’s offer, the experienced midfielder will earn more than £700,000 each week.
Henderson’s contract with the Merseyside club runs until June 2025, thus a fee would still need to be agreed upon between the two clubs.
As of now, Liverpool has not received an offer from Al Ettifaq, but they will begin talks about a transfer if Henderson approves.
Henderson has made 492 appearances for the Reds since signing from Sunderland in 2011, scoring 33 goals and assisting 61 times.
As a Liverpool player, he won eight titles in all, including the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, EFL Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.
Henderson might be the fourth midfielder to leave Anfield this summer, joining Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner, and Naby Keita.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have already strengthened their midfield options with the signings of Alexis MacAllister and Dominik Szoboszlai from Brighton & Hove Albion and RB Leipzig, respectively.
