Manchester United moving closer to Sofyan Amrabat deal

Sofyan Amrabat to Premier League

Manchester United have reportedly achieved ‘significant steps’ in their pursuit of Sofyan Amrabat, with the Fiorentina midfielder now set to join United this summer.

The 20-time English champions have brought in Mason Mount from Chelsea and Andre Onana from Inter Milan during the current transfer window, with the latter generally anticipated to make his debut against Real Madrid on Wednesday night.

Man United have also increased their pursuit of Atalanta BC’s Rasmus Hojlund, who is regarded as the club’s top target in the last third of the pitch.

However, Red Devils head coach Erik ten Hag is thought to be determined to bring in a defensive midfielder this summer, with Fred largely slated to leave and Scott McTominay’s future uncertain.

In recent weeks, Amrabat has been extensively connected with a move to Old Trafford, with the Moroccan international likely to depart Fiorentina during the summer transfer window.

According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, ‘contacts are becoming increasingly active’ between the two parties, with Amrabat now committing to join Manchester United this summer.

Sofyan Amrabat to Manchester United: A Done Deal?

According to the source, the Premier League club will be unable to clinch a deal until some players go, but they are ‘banking’ on the midfielder, who is expected to cost around €30 million (£25.9 million) including bonuses.

Pedulla believes that a deal has not been fully agreed upon, but that ‘significant steps’ have been taken, with the Red Devils in a great position to sign him during the summer window.

Amrabat’s contract with his Italian club is set to end in June, and he has reportedly stated that he would not sign an extension.

During the 2022-23 season, the 26-year-old was a crucial player for Fiorentina, appearing on 49 occasions in all competitions and helping the Serie A club reach the finals of the Europa Conference League and Coppa Italia.

Amrabat also appeared for Morocco in the 2022 World Cup, helping the country reach the competition’s semi-finals.

Aston Villa and Liverpool are also thought to be interested in the midfielder, while Barcelona was widely connected with him earlier this year.

However, Manchester United, who have won all three of their pre-season games this summer, appear to be in pole position to sign him during the current transfer window.
