Mary Kom is on a roll at the moment. The six-time champion, Mary Kom has assured herself the eighth medal and thus writing history. No boxer, including both men and women, has so far won eight world championship medals.
Kom beat rival Valencia Victoria of Colombia 5-0 in the 51kg category to enter the quarters. Mary Kom is also an Olympic silver medalist (2012), winner of five Asian titles, including gold medals at the Asian Games and CWG.
The sitting member of the Rajya Sabha, Mary Kom had won gold medals at the India Open in Guwahati and President’s cup in Indonesia in 2019. She inspired a Bollywood movie by her name which went on to become a mega-hit.
