Praveen Kumar became the first Indian to win a gold at the Wushu World Championship on Wednesday. He beat Russel Diaz of the Philippines in the 48kg category. He edged his Filipino opponent 2-1 in the men’s Sanda event.
Praveen drubbed Khasan Ikromov of Uzbekistan 2-0 in the semifinal on Tuesday. In 2017, Pooja Kadian became the first Indian to become World Champion in Wushu in the 75kg Sanda event.
Wushu Sanda is a mix of martial art which combines full-contact kickboxing, wrestling, takedowns, throws, sweeps, and kicks.
