Serena beat No. 1 Naomi in rematch, Halep retires in Toronto

There is still a long way to go before one writes off the former world no. 1 Serena Williams, who is not showing any signs of waning. Serena overpowered the current no. 1 Naomi Osaka in the rematch on Friday in Toronto—6-3, 6-4. This is for the first time Serena managed to beat the Japanese star in their three clashes so far.

This was sweet revenge for Serena who lost to Osaka in last year’s US Open final, where the former was docked a point and a game. “It hurt, but it wasn’t the end of the world,” said Williams. However, Osaka to retain her numero uno ranking despite losing.
